I restarted my Poem of the Week Series recently and I realized, I needed a better system to produce it. So, I am working with Garrick next week to set that up. I will be broadcasting soon. Excited to get help from one of the best.

Today was my second Monday at my new job. I’m getting into the swing of my new ritual. A new schedule brings the possibilities of other types of discipline in my life. For example, the fact that I haven’t blogged since May 20th! What’s up with that?
Anyway, on the other side of a transition now, I’m feeling much more organized, which in turn makes me feel much more relaxed. It’s good to know these things about yourself and best not to learn them the hard way. ![]()

I saw the latest Star Trek movie on Saturday. The great and talented J.J. Abrahms really hit it. I thought the actors did an amazing job of embodying the original characters.
As I was thinking about the movie later, I thought it had some lessons to share. I wondered if any of my Twitter friends would agree, so I started a tweet chain.
I’m sure you can think of your own. Leave in the comments or go ahead and Tweet it and I’ll add you later. Use the #startreklessons tag so I can find you.
This week the Poem is titled, “Ode to Bea”. It’s funny what seeps into our consciousness when we are young. People don’t get enough poems written about them these days. When Bea Arthur recently passed away I decided to use my new found POTW energy and dedicate some of it to her memory.
UPDATED POST ON MAY 20, 2009:

This weeks poem is titled ‘Unexpected’. Sometimes the unexpected is exactly what you need.
The sound quality is getting better, but we still have room for improvement there.
If you can’t read, the opportunities in the world are much smaller.
If you can’t use the internet, what does that mean to your life?
Howard Rheingold has been thinking about digital literacy for 25 years. He just started a blog about it. The line from his first post that struck me the most was this:
“What we know and what we teach our children about how to critically consume and collaboratively create online media matters.”
It does matter.
This is a picture of me taken today. It is part of the context of the day, so I include it here for the ‘permanent’ record.
Today involved…
A dog walk.
A trip to the accountant and the writing of big checks for stuff you have to write checks for when you are a company.
Lunch on the run while dialing into a conference call.
Firetrucks-5 of them-on my block. The duplex two doors down had a fire upstairs.
A trip to the physical therapist with my friend and trainer molly because i have weird and random back cramps.
UX Book Club.
Evening Blogging.
And Work too.

When I started podcasting the original Poem of the Week, I started with a mini ‘is this thing on’ clip. I have kept that tradition as I kick off Season Two.
This one is a little rough, but I wanted to eschew the perfect for the good and get content out there. It was the only way I felt I would actually start.
So with that, I present to you, flaws and all, POTW Season Two - Episode 1
And I do and so do many others. It’s about community in the end. People that help you do a better job in the world. This video was put together to encourage others to take their snapshots of why they love the IA Summit. Karl Fast asked everyone to do this at the end of the event this year.
We put this together to encourage and inspire. Let the energy from the event live on and keep helping us to do good work.
