So I’ve talked about this new job of mine a bit. It’s a work from home job and working from home is a very different animal. One of the advantages is that with laptop in hand, I’m mobile. I can go anywhere and work as long as I have the Internet. This is why the news that Minneapolis is covering the city with access is great news. I already have tons of options. I haven’t explored them to the fullest extent yet, but that will all come in time.

Today for instance. I’m at the corner coffee shop. Because of the wireless access here, I can hang out and work. This is the first time I’ve tried it here. Remember, I’m baby stepping into my options with this gig.

This is the future. I’m getting spoiled with this freedom. It comes with a price of course (see post regarding all nighters) but everything worth having has some kind of price tag attached.

So, coffee shop today, tomorrow the park? It’s a great time to be alive. Everyone should be so lucky. Thanks Minneapolis, wireless for all is the way it should be.

Touchstones

We were standing in the fairly small crowd at the 400 bar. My husband and two of our good friends. We had been here before. We had been here before to see the same band we were here to see now. I’ve seen incarnations of that band many, many times. Friday night it was Crooked Fingers and it felt like one of those moments. It was familiar and right. I’ve seen Eric play in Archers of Loaf, as himself and in Crooked Fingers. I’ve seen Crooked Fingers play a few times. It was never as good as this. He’s beefed up the band. He brought Matt in. Matt the crazy bassist. Matt that rocks. When we all realized he was added back into the mix it was pretty exciting. We saw the band and it felt great. Watching musicians evolve as you evolve yourself in life. Nothing stays the same and that’s fantastic. It’s amazing to have reminders of that. Some things you keep coming back to in life. Entertainment, enjoyment, and a little bit of karmic satisfaction. Thanks for coming to Minneapolis again, Crooked Fingers , we love you.

One of the things I find nice about my job is that it’s on my time schedule. Working from home gives you freedom and responsibility. It’s kind of like when you go to college for the first time. You have to learn to balance. I’m learning how. It’s a different way of working and I feel lucky to have the opportunity.

But the thing that’s most like college about this job. All nighters. :)

It is becoming a more saturated world. Things to do, people to see, web sites to visit, new cool web activities to try out. You need energy to keep up with this, but that’s ok. This is exciting stuff. The world is cracking open in interesting ways. But with every new frontier there is always the danger that accompanies it.

Balance. Focus. Choose.

Those are my three magic words of the day.
