A spur of the moment music purchase inspired by the geekiness of my husband and me.

It’s not what I would expect, but it’s definitely worth a listen if you like electronica goodness.

It’s from 2005 and there is only album. It’s hard to find info about it and there is no info about them.

The music is pretty good. The lyrics I’m listening to right now are funny, a male voice is singing, “I’d like a cheeseburger…..” in this really strange sounding way and there is another voice that speaks in the background talking about how Americans have more than they know what to do with. That song is called America Chooses.

Anyway, I liked it enough to blog about it.

If you need to go get it after that shining endorsement. Here you go.

Carry on. :)

Apparently, John McCain, when asked if there is a strategy to attack Iran, replied, “You know that old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran?” the Republican presidential candidate said. Then, he sang. “Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.”

I guess someone forgot to tell him the cameras are always on. He claims it was a joke, but is that really funny coming from a U.S. Senator and presidential candidate?

I have to say, i’m not very amused.

Recently I found out that Jon Stewart who is one of my all time favorites and frankly kind of a hero is coming to perform in Minneapolis. I was really really excited and clicked on the pre-sale link to go get my tickets. I went all the way through to the point of purchase when I realized it was going to cost me an extra $14.30 per ticket. I was only buying two tickets and I’ve always known and complained about those extra costs that you get charged but this time it was a deal breaker. That’s quite a bit of money for the ‘convienence’. Whose convienence is this anyway?

Ticket Cost

The sad part is that the seats aren’t even that good. It’s in the back right, seats 3 and 4 section T-HH.

I told this story to some friends, all friends that would jump to go see Jon Stewart, and they had the same reaction. An extra $14.30 for what? If I really knew what this was for I might consider paying it. I also remember that these fees did not used to be this high.

Sadly, I will not get to see my hero perform because I just can’t justify an extra almost $30 bucks for my sweetie and me to go line the monopolies pocket. This isn’t good for consumers and it is definitely not good for performers. It was hard making the call to not pay the extra for Jon Stewart but what about other lesser know acts. It will be much easier for me and I imagine others to say, eh, I’m skipping it.

I’m just sayin……

I’m giving a talk tomorrow about Blogs, Podcasting and RSS. I’m speaking to the MN Women in Communications organization. Here’s the info.

I’m actually really excited to be sharing this topic, one that I’m very passionate about, with a group of people that want to utilize these tools in their work. I’ll be talking about the context of social media and why it brings these delivery mechanisms (blogs and podcasts) to the fore in terms of their power and effectiveness.

The Apple TV

I haven’t taken the time to properly rave about my new AppleTV. It took me a week or so to stop calling it the ITV. There is another product with that name. This one is the AppleTV.

Anyway, this product was pretty much custom made for us. We went to basic cable about a year or so ago. We’ve been getting our content through ITunes, which has worked, but it’s too easy to get way behind on your Daily Shows, so it wasn’t optimal.

Now it’s all in our living room thanks to the Apple TV.

This is going to change things. The biggest discovery that hit me when I sat down to watch it. (I was out of town when it showed up and my husband set it up while I was gone-thanks Thomas) Anyway, the biggest discovery that hit me was that all of a sudden, anybody could be in my living room. Same as network TV, cable TV, etc. Because of the podcasts I subscribe to on ITunes, anyone can be in my living room entertaining me.

That may not seem like a big deal, but just wait. Just think about that for a minute. Right now I’m watching old zefranks because there aren’t any new ones. :(

One of the first things I brought up was my podcast. Little ol me with my microphone and my photoshop put this podcast together weekly, PoemOfTheWeek, which is sadly behind schedule at the moment, and that podcast can be in anyone’s living room.

Evol’s Podcast on AppleTV

It uses ITunes (which is free) and this device, the AppleTV, which is under $300 and all of a sudden all the Internet content, doesn’t have to be watched on the computer.

I like Apple, they make things for me. Maybe I’m in a small little group, but it definitely feels like they understand us.
