In a Star Tribune article from last summer new legislation that Rep. John Lesch wants to ban pit bulls, chows, wolf hybrids, Akitas and Rottweilers is outlined.

They want to ban these dogs because of ‘bad things happening’ with these dogs. First off, yes, there are bad people that do bad things. Does this mean you should reach into the rights of everyone in the entire state and exclude their rights & the rights of their animals when they have done nothing wrong?

There are no bad dogs, just bad people. I have no problem with making the owners accountable. I have a big problem with BSL (Breed Specific Legislation). I have a problem with this because it’s a huge infringement of rights AND it doesn’t address the problem of people being attacked by dogs.

I looked out my window this morning and I got worried that somehow I passed out for about 10 months.

Whenever I get that email response with ‘Comments Inline’ at the top I just want to pull my hair out. I know that I’m now going to be forced to weave through something that has just been made much more complex because the person responding has decided to off load that cognitive burden on me.

Please don’t respond to emails like this. Because you’ll do it, then a third person will add on to it. Then I’ll get the email and I’ll have to spend 15 minutes deconstructing the darn thing. Here’s a hint….I’m not going to deconstruct it.

So if you don’t want me to read your email, put your comments inline.

Sometimes the free things are so much more trouble than they are worth. We had a very lovely and very old laptop in our kitchen that died. It became very difficult to not have a computer in that room anymore. (yes, we are addicts….) So this caused the research and decision making around yet another computer purchase. We decided on the Mac mini.

We went to one of the many local Apple stores to make this purchase. When it was all rung up, it cost $500 more than it would cost online. We had to tell them we weren’t going to buy it here because we could get the same thing from the online store for $500 less. However, the trip to the Apple store made us aware of the ‘free printer with computer purchase’ deal. I hadn’t noticed that in my online shopping. Armed with this new knowledge and a much better price point, we headed home to make the purchase online.

3 weeks later everything arrived. I finally got around to filling out the rebate form for the printer. Guess what, it’s a printer/scanner and the glass is broken. I hadn’t opened the thing yet because it was a bonus, not something we needed, so it wasn’t set up yet. Well being on an early morning tear to take care of some administrative activities in the household before starting my work day, this was my task of choice.

I called Apple 20 minutes ago about getting a replacement printer, I’m still on hold. Yes, I’ve talked to someone, she keeps checking back and letting me know ‘it will be just a few more minutes’ and ‘our systems are giving us some trouble…..’. So this free printer so far has cost in my time almost as much as it was worth in the first place.

As my grandma always used to say, ‘Kid, there’s no free lunch.’ It’s still true, more true every day.

New York Times quote of the day…

“Nobody has any sympathy for oil companies on Capitol Hill right now. You talk to someone driving to work in an F-150 pickup and paying $75 to fill up his tank, and everybody’s on his side.”

- JACK KINGSTON, a Republican congressman from Georgia.

I’m not on pick up guy’s side. I’m not on the oil company side either. I’m on the side of the future and the children. The guy driving the pick up and yes I mean you too if your car gets less the x miles to the gallon is making a choice. The choice to use lots of resources. The choice to use oil. The choice is to continue to make the oil executive rich and powerful.

Stop bitching about expensive gas. Make better choices!

I think expensive gas is a good thing. Do you have any idea how much it costs in Europe?

The news was talking about the Season Opener of South Park last night. They basically made Chef into Chef Vader. The story is Issac Hayes quit South Park because they made fun of Scientology.

A family nearby was listening to the story with fervent intent and when the story was over the mom said, ‘That’s just like those liberals, South Park has made fun of every religion, but they sure don’t like it when they make fun of their’s……”

Did I miss the memo? When did Scientology become the liberal religion?

Wow people, we sure have some f***ed up perceptions about each other.

So, I’ve noticed this weird behavior that pedestrians are exhibiting. They hold up their hand and tell me to stop when I’m driving my car. That’s not going to work. It drives me crazy. Like what, you hold your hand and somehow magically the car is going to stop. It’s not.

Stop it.

It’s really just too difficult to come up with anything to say. There is so much pain happening in this country and there are so many reasons it doesn’t have to be that way.

Let’s just say this for now, the people in power are greedy. They don’t care about the poor people they are supposed to care about. We have government for reasons like hurricane Katrina and we were failed.

I just have one question, for all of those that voted for the man in charge right now.

Do you feel safer? Are you glad you didn’t change horses mid-stream?

I’m sure glad we made that choice! (SARCASM)

Goin Fast

Sometimes you actually witness karma in front of your eyes. It’s amazing when that happens. I saw it the other day on my way to the pharmacy. I was driving down Hennepin away from downtown and toward uptown. Several cars were stopped at a red light and this very erratic driver came up buzzing like a bee to get in front. I drove at a steady pace. She was so intent on going fast. There was this urgency that made her dangerous. The car intermittently got in front of me and behind me. We were both, it seemed, headed toward the same destination. She kept weaving and changing lanes to get ahead. She had to get ahead. But it would just get her behind. Meanwhile she was blathering away on her phone and causing havoc. She was a danger to others, but that didn’t seem to phase her. I was getting upset.

(Sidenote for Context: My father was killed in a car accident so I’m particularly indignant when people drive in a way that could negatively affect other human beings. Carelessness in driving is not something I appreciate.)

As it turned out we were going to the same place. I went to Walgreen’s. She had turned off ahead of me. I went into the pharmacy and picked up my medication. I turned around and crazy driving cell phone girl was standing behind me. She was waiting. She was waiting impatiently and she was clutching her cell phone. She had no idea I’d been watching her and observing her and using her behavior to tell an amusing story about her. I have no idea who she is. It’s all just what you see when you observe.

And then I thought, there it is, Karma. Don’t see that too often.

This is really going too far.

“This programming is not simply — it’s not supposed to be the personal playhouse of the left wing in this country.” That’s what George Neumayer claimed this evening on the The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. You can read the entire transcript if you like.

The thing is, there’s no proof. Public television and radio are left wing playgrounds? Those are very strong accusations to throw around without proof.

Commercial media is abhorrent. I have no respect left for journalists other than the journalists on PBS and NPR and all the local affiliates. They are the only journalists left that aren’t driven by market forces.

And as for the fact that the American taxpayer is paying SO MUCH MONEY to fund this liberal playground. Here are the facts.

* UK: $210 per household, Japan: $240 per household
* U.S.: $1.25 per person
* PBS is the least publicly funded public broadcaster in any democratic country

So each of us is paying $1.25 a year for public broadcasting? How much am I paying for that war that I thought was a terrible idea? Why do I have to pay for that again?

This will rip the insides out of rural America. Take away Sesame Street, go ahead. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. I wonder what the children will say when there is no more Big bird. You were so worried about what to tell the children when president Clinton lied, what will you tell them about this?

Just wondering.

Republican, democrat, sick of it or just don’t care? If you like Sesame Street, please tell your Congressperson. Please do something……
