It’s been a good year so far. I haven’t had trouble changing the date when I write it or type it at all. I think the even years are better somehow. Happy Friday everyone.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve got an art show hanging at the local coffee shop. I’ve also created online galleries for the show so people not nearby can view it and so it lives on beyond August. (It’s showing til the end of the month.)

I shared my news with most everyone I know. I think this might have been the best part of the experience, the feedback from everyone.

My favorite so far was the feedback from the artist that inspires me to really see:

“…you don’t fully understand your own work
until you see it on the wall. a show is not an end, rather a road map for
what’s next.”

Such wisdom.

I’m an incredibly lucky person to have such guidance/freedom in my artistic exploration and to have many, many other people interested enough to take a look at my online art and give me feedback. I’m truly honored by that.

Here’s the info for the show if you can make it. It’s hanging all of August.

If you know me, you know I like to take pictures. I started a photography workshop with a local artist this Saturday. It’s a six week workshop. My stated goal for the sessions is to use this time as focused gumption building time. I want to start several projects that will become something else later and reach completion outside the bounds of the workshop. The artist in charge of the workshop completely understands this objective. To begin again is my objective. We are always beginning again. I’m going through a series of steps with my blossoming hobby to acheive, shall we say, the next level.

I’m printing out all my contact sheets and cataloging them. At the same time I am taking a big batch of new photos each day. I’m getting inspired in the new photos by some of the old photos. I’m experiencing fond memories and a general flashback time period. That’s the next step with digital photography. Experiencing it in the way you experience film photos that you just dug up out a shoebox or an old album you flipped through. I was at my friend Kat’s house the other day and she did just that. She pulled out some boxes with pictures and some old albums. That’s the next step I want to take my photography to. Creating meaningful interactions around the images.

The images inspire us. Everything is an imprint if you just change your perspective a degree. A moment in time. Captured.

My Birthday

Today is my birthday. I can tell it’s going to be a good year. I can feel it. I’m up early, doing things I love to do. A very good year.

Canada is on its way to becoming the third nation in the world to legalize gay marriage. Bill C-38 was given its final approval by the House of Commons this week.

Thank goodness for our more rationale, level-headed friends to the North.

I’ve never really liked alcohol. Beer always made me feel full and I didn’t like the taste. Wine = headaches in the morning, I liked the taste and loved the experience, but there were always consequences. Sweet liquor with sweet drinks made my stomach hurt.

But then I met the martini. I like martini’s they don’t make me feel sick. They are fun. They are the drink of the ladies. Classy and incredibly potent.
