facebookout.jpgAbout a week ago, I disabled my Facebook account. A movie I saw on a reputable blog freaked me out. I don’t want to get into the details here, others explain it much better than me. I had known some of the facts before but for some reason last week, it just got to me and I shut it down.

Just so we are clear, I’m not afraid of the Internets or any of this ’social media’ stuff. I love it. I relish it. I seek out new services just for fun. But, I decided, since I wasn’t getting any value from it, (my professional network is on LinkedIn and my friends do like to hang out at mySpace so) Facebook felt like it was extra for me anyway.

I think it’s probably time for all of us to start reading those user agreements. DANG.

I have been using a web browser for a very long time. Today, I went to write a journal entry and I just wanted it to be for me. I didn’t want to blog it or anything like that. That’s when I realized, I could not think of another way to communicate this. I didn’t go for a pen and paper, I couldn’t think of an application that I would use right off the bat. When I did start thinking about the possibilities, none was right 1) I don’t use MSOffice, 2) StarOffice/NeoOffice/OpenOffice didn’t feel right 3) Google docs, well I wanted this to be my personal diary entry, so putting it on the web definitely involves a level of risk (a small, small risk, but it’s there). The only thing that felt right was my trusty blog posting software. It’s so comfortable to create my entries, this expression was just like a blog post, except I didn’t want to share it. :)

It was a strange discovery. I could only think and expound in the blog post environment. So instead of writing that diary entry, I had to write this blog post first. It’s odd when we make discoveries about ourself that are so telling of our own reality. It’s obviously become a creatively comfortable environment for me, but is it a crutch? And if this means of communication is such an important avenue for me, why do I still have the default theme? (:) )

It means silence implies consent. It’s also one of the more articulate and important blog posts I’ve read in a little while.

It’s an article that is questioning why Dick Cheney is able to continually profane the Constitution with his actions and why the media is hardly mentioning it.

From the Washington Post.com, “Cheney is not subject to the executive order, she said, “because the president gets to decide whether or not he should be treated separately, and he’s decided that he should.”

More constitutional shenanigans, but that’s not really the point of the blog post. The real point is that while this happens, very few places are talking much about it because they are so busy with other key topics. Paris, the slain pregnant woman and the Iphone are all at the top of the list. Silence is approval. If our journalists don’t challenge this kind of overreaching behavior (again) from the Vice President, well no wonder they are trying to dis bloggers all the time.
